5 Ways Social Media Might Be Affecting You Negatively

The internet has made doing business and connecting with people a lot easier, but everything that has a positive, most times also has a negative side to it. These days, a lot of people have gotten so addicted to social media websites like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc and heavy use of these social media sites have negative effects on people. Below are 5 negative ways social media might be affecting you negatively.

1.  It Might Make You Live a Fake Life
So many live fake lives on social media. Even the ones that at one time swore never to do that find themselves doing so at one point. Girls posing inside a strangers car to take a picture just so they can post on Facebook and look big. Guys posting pictures of expensive drinks and raw cash that ain't theirs. So many people are so quick to post a 'picture perfect' photo, or talk about the expensive restaurant they ate at; most of them don't even allow themselves to have fun naturally anymore, they just act like they are having fun for the camera.

2.  Exposure to Cyber Bullying
The more you use social media and post pictures of yourself and speak about your life, the more you leave room for cyber bullying. They are people that might have shitty lives and derive pleasure from bullying people on social media with their words just so they can feel better. A girl might post a picture of herself on her Instagram page, and a random follower of hers might make fun of her flat chest, or dress sense. A single celebrity might post a picture of her/his new car and some people will abuse her/him of still being single at her/his age.

8 American Celebrities You Didn't Know Were Really Short (2016)

Camera makes people look taller and bigger sometimes, but it might interest you to know that some of your favorite celebrities ain't as tall as you thought they were. I remember standing next to Beyonce one time and actually looking for her...like 'where is the Queen B?' I didn't even know she was standing right next to me. Haha! Just kidding. Anyway, back to business.

Below are 8 celebrities I am sure you never knew were really short.

8.  Bruno Mars (5'5)
Yea, for a man, he is quiet short, but he sure got a tall voice. Below is a picture of Bruno Mars standing next to Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift is 5ft10. This gives you an idea of how short Bruno Mars really is.

Pictures of Eko Atlantic City (Lagos, Nigeria)

Eko Atlantic is a new city being built by the Lagos state Government (in partnership with some private investors) along the coast of Lagos. Actually, it is being built on reclaimed land from the Lagos lagoon; a stretch of coastline adjacent Lagos. When completed, it is going to be the number one Nigerian international commerce city. It is going to have state of the art high tech infrastructure in line with modern and environmental standards.

With a 10 square kilometers land mass, Eko Atlantic City will satisfy needs for tourist, commercial, financial, and residential accommodations. It is speculated that the city would house about a quarter of a million residence. I love futuristic developments, so I decided to showcase some pictures of the ongoing construction of this city of the future in Lagos.

8 Hollywood Actors Who Turned Down Big Movie Roles

This article is all about actors who turned down movie roles. Please note that these actors didn't know the movies were going to be big at the time they were offered the roles. Some of them had an idea the movies were going to be huge, and didn't want to be typecast for the role they would have played in the movies for the rest of their lives, but most didn't know the movies were going to be big. I guess there is a reason for everything, cos most of the movie roles this actors turned down were taken by people who did justice to the roles.

Below are 6 actors who turned down big movie roles. People now use actor as a general term to refer to male and female individuals who act...so, don't get confused when you see a female name below.

1.  Angela Basset (Leticia in Monsters Ball- 2001)
She turned down the role to play the character of Leticia in Monsters Ball. She said it was too black stereotype and she couldn't imagine herself playing a role that was close to being a prostitute on screen. Hallie Berry didn't mind playing the ex-rated sex scene, and she took up the role. That got Hallie her one and only Oscar award.

2.  Will Smith (Neo in Matrix- 1999)
Well, I have to say thank God Will Smith turned down this role. I am a fan of his, but Keanu Reeves was born to play Neo in Matrix...I can't even imagine how the movie would have been with Will Smith playing that part. Can you?

3.  John Travolta (Lead Role in Splash- 1984)

Well, I think Travolta would have still been good for this movie. He was doing his lover-boy thing back in the 80s, so he would have fit in just right for this movie.

4.  John Travolta (Forest Gump in Forest Gump- 1994)
Do John Travolta and Tom Hanks look alike? Hmm! I guess a little, when they were younger. I am trying to understand why they kept getting picked for same roles in movies. Anyway, once again, good thing John Travolta turned down the role. It was like Tom Hanks was made for that role. And yea, it got him his second Oscar award.

Top 10 Gangster Movies of All Time (IMDB Ranking)

I wanted to write this article based off of my personal opinion, but I thought that might be biased, given that I am a big Robert De Niro fan...I might just cramp the top 5 with mostly De Niro movies. So this is what I did...I went on IMDB.COM, and searched through the dozens of gangster movies that are rated on the website, and picked the top 10 gangster movies with the highest ratings. Please note that these ratings are based off of individual ratings done by thousands of IMDB users all over the world. Being one of the top 10 movie websites in the world, I thought this would be the closest representation of what the people consider the top 10 gangster movies of all time.

So, below is a list of the top ten gangster movies of all time, based on IMDB ratings.

10. Scarface (8.3)
This is one of my all time favorites, and I am sure many people's favorite as well. I still watch this over and over every chance I get, and I never get tired of it. Even though The Godfather was the movie that brought Al Pacino to limelight, this is the movie majority of casual movie watchers remember him for.

Set in the 80s, Tony Montana (Al Pacino) and his friend, Manny (Steven Bauer) travel to America from Cuba for a better life. After working tirelessly at a roadside diner, they decide they had to be more to the American dream than the life they were living. And they went searching for ways to make fast money, till they got into the drug business. A very ambitious Tony always wanted more, and with that attitude, he worked his way to the top.

The movie also stars a young Michelle Pfieffer. It was written by Oliver Stone, and directed by Brian De Palma. It was released in 1983.

5 Reasons Why MMM Was So Successful in Nigeria

The news about MMM Nigeria freezing the accounts of its memberss is all over the news in Nigeria right now, but in this article, I am not going to be talking about that. I am also not going to be talking about whether MMM has crashed or not, or what MMM is. I am going to be talking about why MMM was so successful in Nigeria. Even though a lot of people believe the scheme has come to an end (which I don't totally believe), I just want to talk about why it was so successful in a very short period of time.

Why Do Some Brides Show So Much Cleavage on Their Wedding Day?

Every time I attend a wedding ceremony, this question crosses my mind- why do some brides show so much cleavage on their wedding day. I am not a moralists or anything, I am just curious. I have seen ladies who never did that on a regular go all the way with it on their wedding day. Is there some sort of ritual there I don't know about?

Nothing in Life is Free

I know people like to say the best things in life are free, but really, if you take time to think about it, nothing in life is free. If you didn't pay for it initially, you will pay for it later. And if you don't get to pay for it later, then you probably paid for it in the past without knowing, or someone is currently paying for it. And even if you get something for free from someone or a company, you are probably paying with a more valuable currency- TIME.

A lot of people overlook this fact, but really, your time is limited, so it is a more valuable currency than money. If you spend time in line to get something free, or you let someone control your life cos she or he is helping with some handouts, you really ain't getting that money or service for free, cos you have paid for it with your time. So, you see, whichever way you look at it, nothing in life is really free.

The Story of the Alleged "7 Year Old Boy" That Was Burnt Alive in Lagos

The story of a supposed 7 year old boy who people claim was burnt for stealing a cup of Garri has been all over the Internet lately. When I first saw the story, even though the picture of the boy looked like that of a toddler, my brain didn't just want to accept the story. 'How can sane human beings beat and burn a 7 year old boy to death,' i thought to myself. So, I decided to do a little research.

After watching the video, I saw that the person that was lynched and burnt alive was actually a man with a small body; At least, 20 years and above. He had been beaten to a pulp (the type of beating a 7 year old body can never withstand), and his face and head had bumps all over from the planks and stones people had used on him. This happened in Alafia; a community in Orile (Lagos, Nigeria), where people say is notorious for deadly robbery attacks at night. According to people, this particular thief didn't wait for the cover of the night to perpetuate his act; he tried to rob a woman in broad day light, and when someone standing close by tried to stop him, he started stabbing the man in multiple places, but he was overpowered by the other people passing by.

Pictures of Men Piercing Themselves with Metal Objects (GRAPHIC PICS)

Well, the name of my blog is things out of the ordinary, so it is only right I have posts like this. Below are pics of Asian men (mostly Thai men) during their annual vegetarian festival, where they pierce themselves with knives and other metal objects. They are vegetarians, who are members of the Chinese Samkong Shrine, and this ritual is done during a 9 day festival in Phuket (Thailand). They believe this act can help them shift evil spirits and obtain peace of mind. This festival is believed to have started in Thailand in the 1800s.

Hmm! I wonder if those wound would ever properly heal.

5 Great Men Who Died Broke

It is one thing to be great and contribute greatly to the world, and it is another thing to actually reap the fruits of your labor in financial rewards. Some people get rich off their contributions to the world, and lost it all all after a couple of years. Some don't even reap the fruits of their labor while alive. Below is a list of 5 great men who died broke, after contributing greatly to the world.

1.  Joe Louis
People still consider him the greatest boxer of all time. Joe Lewis held the World Heavyweight Championship for a record of 140 months, between 1937-1949. What the heck, right? Yea, he was that much of a great fighter. He earned millions during his time as a professional boxer, but died a broke man in 1981.

Top 5 Biggest States in Nigeria

Below is the list of the top 5 states in Nigeria based on landmass. I sure would love to build my game reserve in one of these states in the near future.

The Advancements of Biafra...The Country That Could Have Been

Between 1967-1970, a time before many of us using the internet today were born, there was a country within a country that became advanced from necessity. The Biafran war/Nigerian civil war was fought during that time-frame, between the Nigerian government and the new government of Biafra (led by the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu). Biafra comprised of all the states that currently make up the south eastern part of Nigeria, and also some states in the Niger Delta region. The people felt unjustly treated by the Nigerian government and felt secession was the best option.

The war was eventually lost by the Biafrans, but in those three years, necessity birthed a lot of inventions that could have made the region really great if built open. Refineries were built, weapons for war were made locally, advanced means of telecommunication for that time was also built. Below are some excerpts from Ojokwu's last war time speech from 2010.

He also gives to other charity organizations that are not related to cancer research.

Immortality Might be Possible in the Near Future (Part 1)

Yes. I believe Immortality will be possible in the future. And i don't think it will take hundreds of years to become achievable; I think it is something that scientists can make possible in about 30-40 years. Advancement actually grows in an arithmetic progression kind of way, so you can't tell what technological advancement which we might come up with in the next 5 years that can make Immortality a possibility in maybe even 25 years time. But, If you think of the future only in terms of present intelligence and technology, then of course it  would sound unlikely, or even frightening to you.

We are not our bodies. The body you are in is just a vehicle that houses your consciousness, which is who/what you really are. Your physical body is just a shell; you are your consciousness, your mind. And if your mind can be copied, stored somewhere safe and transferred when your physical body dies, then you can go on living in a new body. Yea, the body would/might not be the same body you lived those many years with, but to begin with, that body wasn't you. You are consciousness. Even your brain is not you. It is a tool your mind use to carry the functioning of thinking, and the brain also handles coordination of your whole body movement, in terms of conscious and unconscious actions, but it is still not you. And of cos, like other parts of your physical body, your brain gets old, and loses most of its abilities to coordinate the body. But your consciousness (soul) never dies. All that has to be done is to find another shell for it to live in and the best way to transfer your consciousness to that body, and you can become immortal.

If you have seen the Johnny Depp movie, Transcendence, you would have a better grasp of the possibility of immortality. In the movie, Johnny Depp's character, scientist, Will Caster and his wife worked on the science of uploading a human consciousness to a super computer, and when he got shot with a poison and was on his dying bed, he and his wife agreed to put their theory to the test. His consciousness did get transferred to the computer, and and then later to a nano technologically built human body. Yea, it might sound like jargon, but whatever the human mind can conceive, it can achieve. I am sure if you had told people that lived in the 13ths century that there would come a time when human voice would travel through thin air, through millions of miles, within seconds, they would have thought the person thinking of such was crazy. Now we make international calls between destinations thousands of miles apart, and it is like nothing.

I don't know whether the kind of immortality you see in vampire movies where the man would live for thousand of years is ever going to be possible in my lifetime, but I am positive that the kind of immortality where the consciousness can be uploaded and transferred to another body will become a reality before I die. You have people like Sergey Brin and Larry Page (owners of Google) backing this immortality research with their billions. In fact, they started a company called, Calico in 2013, with the sole aim of combating ageing. There vision might be more of the vampire kind of immortality reality, but one way or the other, all these researches will help ultimately in the research for human immortality.

Top 7 Biggest Wild Cats in the World

The cat family is very big. From the little sized domesticated cats, to the wild cats of the jungle, like the Tiger, and the Lion. There more than a dozen members of the cat family, but today we are going to be dealing with the top 7 biggest (in size) of them all. You might be surprised at the cat sitting on the number one spot.

Below are the top 7 biggest cats in the world.

7.  Cheetah
The cheetah is our number 7 on the list. I guess it's smaller size compared to other wild cats has to do with why it is the fastest in its family, and also among all land animals. An average cheetah weighs 54kg, and it can be found in eastern and southern Africa, and some parts of Iran.

Some Successful Jewish People Around the World

A lot of people believe Jewish people are the chosen people of God, and that God is always behind them. Personally, one thing that marvels me about them is how successful most of them are and have been in the past. So, today I decided to list a couple of successful Jews of the world. Some of them, you might be surprised are Jews.

Jimmy Iovine
Founder of Interscope Records, the music record label responsible for heavyweight rap musicians like Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent. Iovine gave Dr. Dre a platform on Interscope when Dre was having problems with Suge Knight at Death Row Records, and Dre was able to build his Aftermath label under Interscope Records. They (Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine) also partnered up to start Dre Beats Headphones. So, when Dre Beats was sold to Apple for $3 billion in 2014, Dre and Iovine got equal share of the money that got to them after taxes and all other modalities. Smart Jew, right?

Calvin Klein
Successful American fashion designer, Calvin Klein is also of Jewish descent. His clothing line is very successful and he is also into perfumes, watches, and jewelry.

6 Months of Daylight and 6 Months of Darkness in Some Parts of the Earth

Do you know that there are places on Earth that experience 6 months of daylight, the next 6 months would be of darkness. I mean, for the 6 months, there is daylight all through the day, and then there is 6 months where there is darkness all through the day. These places are located in the north and south poles. That is, in the Arctic Circle (north pole), and in the Antarctic Circle (south pole). Antarctic circle is mostly ice, but in the Arctic Circle, you have countries like Finland, Russia, Canada, Norway, and Sweden having their northern parts experiencing this phenomena.

I studied Geography at the University, so I totally understand how this is so. But, my problem is finding the simplest way to explain why it is so. Let me try my best without making it look like a boring lecture. But for those that don't want to know why this phenom is so, you are okay knowing that northern parts of Norway, Canada, Finland, Russia, and Sweden experience what is close to 6 months of daylight and 6 months of darkness through the year. Oh, yea, and parts of Alaska (state in USA) too. If you have seen the Al Pacino movie, Insomnia (2002), there is a part where He asked some people to take him to a school he was meant to begin his investigation and they laughed. It was daylight but was actually night time in the small Alaskan town, and the school had already closed for the day.

10 Suicidal Signs in People

It takes a person that has experienced true love to write a compelling romance novel. It takes someone that knows a lot about stocks to write a book about stocks. It takes...Hope you get my drift? The reason I was moved to write this article is because when ever a new suicide case pops up, the people closest to the person that killed himself/herself always say things like, 'Tommy could never kill himself; there has to be some foul play behind this.' 'He was so happy. Why did he kill himself.' 'We didn't see any signs.'

The truth is, there are always signs. No one ups and kills himself without having shown tendencies of doing so before. Sometimes it might be one big damaging event that might make them commit suicide. Or, it might be overwhelming accumulated problems which caused the depression, which later led to suicide. Either case, there are always signs before hand. No matter how subtly the signs might be, they always leave signs along the way. The person might show majority of the signs below, or just one or two signs, but I am positive any suicidal person would show at least one of the 10 signs listed below. If you could recognize them in a friend or family member, you could save a life.

1.  Anger
Someone getting angry over little things is a clear sign that that person is most likely fighting an internal battle. Look deeper, and the person might be depressed and fighting suicidal thoughts.

2.  They Show Little Enthusiasm to Life
When you notice someone doesn't get enthusiastic about life anymore. Nothing excites him or her, even the things that once excited them.

7 Advantages of Abstinence- For Men

Let's not fool ourselves, most guys in their 20s or even late teens have regular casual sex, so I am not here to preach total abstinence from sex. I am here to speak on the benefits of abstaining from sex for a period of time (maybe 4-8 weeks) and then going back to it. The benefits are enormous. Oh, and to the ladies, I am a guy, so I can't authoritatively speak on the benefits for females, that is why this article is just for men.

The abstinence I am talking about is- no form of sexual acts at all; no penetration sex and no masturbation of any sort. You have to retain that sexual energy...retain your juice. So, that means, no pornography; whether via pics, video, or even literature.

Below are 7 advantages of abstinence- for men.

1.  Mastering Self Control
There are a lot of men that can't control their sexual urges out there. I mean, well respectable men in the society like priests, pastors, teachers, professors, and bankers who get into one sexual scandal or the other because of lack of self control. I am sure you have read the countless stories; they flood social media daily. The problem is that if you don't learn self control as a man, you are at high risk of getting involved in a messy sex scandal case.

Practicing temporal abstinence from sex will help you build self control. Once you can train your mind to say NO to sex when your body is craving it badly, you will start to build up a strong self control when it comes to matters concerning sex. And the best way to do that is to set a time frame in which you would not have sex even if the opportunity presents itself. It is very hard to practice total celibacy (that's why catholic priests keep getting involved in one sexual scandal or the other), but temporal abstinence of 1-3 months is very achievable. I like to be very realistic.

Top 10 Most Muscular Hollywood Actors of the Last 30 Years

See, I am a skinny guy, right, but there was one time I was buff. Yes, I'm serious. lol! I was in the University and there was this indefinite strike, so I was always bored to death at home. One day, I deiced to start lifting iron. Nope, not at the gym, but in my backyard. I was lifting the metal thingy of our well...the part that you turn around and around to bring the bucket of water up from the well. In three months, my body was ripped. I had it great with the ladies at the time, then I got lazy and got skinny again. I have been struggling to get that body again, but I have been short of luck. lol! That's why I respect people that were disciplined enough to build up muscles. Cos, trust me, it takes discipline.

So, today I have decided to showcase the top 10 most muscular Hollywood actors of the last 30 years. Yea, I know the ladies will love this.

Was the 'Save Mayowa' Campaign a Scam

So, this story is what is all over the social media world right now. Let me try and summarize the story. Some days ago, a girl with Ovarian cancer, Mayowa Ahmed Shukurat filmed a short video of herself speaking on how she needs money for treatment, and then posted it on Instagram. Her friends spread the word on the world wide web, and it got the attention of Nigerian actress, Toyin Aimakhu, who took up the campaign, and called a lot of her friends in the entertainment industry for help. In a very short span of time (they actually raised 32 million Naira in three days), they were able to raise $100,000 for Mayowa's treatment abroad. Then the bubble burst.

8 Reasons Why I Prefer Older James Bond Movies to Newer Ones

Before I start, please note that it is clear from the article title that this is based on MY OPINION. I am not saying older James Bond movies are better than the newer ones. In fact, Roger Moore (who is my favorite to play the James Bond role) picked Daniel Craig over Sean Connery as the best to have played the role of the Ian Flemming character, James Bond.

My take on the whole thing is that, I feel the newer Bond movies are great movies, they just ain't great BOND MOVIES to me. They don't have the ingredients that fascinated me and kept me longing for a new James Bond movie back in the 80s and 90s. I see the new Bond movies with Daniel Craig as great espionage movies, with great plot and action, but not just great bond movies.

Below are 8 reasons why I prefer older James Bond movies to the newer ones.

8.  The Exotic Cars
In Skyfall, they had to use the same Aston Martin that was used in Gold Finger (1964). The Daniel Craig movies don't really have the exotic cars in them. It doesn't give it that James Bond feeling.

Do Nigerian Women Really Want Gender Equality

Yup! That's my question for today. Do Nigerian ladies really want  REAL gender equality? I see the slow rise of feminism in Nigeria, and I see these feminists and not so feminist women clamoring for gender equality. First of all, I think gender equality is unrealistic cos biologically, men and women are not the same. I am not saying one gender is better than the other, but that we are too different to be equal. And really, that talk of 'what men can do women can do better' is all bull-crap. Pardon my french.

I think I need to get back on track. Yea, I don't think Nigerian women really want equality. I mean, all round equality. Equal responsibility at home, in the society, and all spheres of life. Are most of them ready to go 50/50 on all spending in a relationship? I mean, whether married or still dating, will a Nigerian lady be willing to split the cost of a date, or the cost of running a home right down the middle? Of cos there are a couple of ladies that would do this, but they are not up to 5% of the women population of the country.

When it comes to gender equality in the workplace, maybe we need a little work here. I feel the women folk are not done justice here. But then again, if you look at the fact that the physical and emotional makeup of a man makes him more suitable for some jobs than women, then you understand why the number of men is more than that of women in Nigeria's workforce. There is reason that there are more female nurses than male nurses...you don't see men shouting for equality there.

Top Ten Mind Stimulants/Sources of Inspiration

Today, I am going to be talking about the top ten ways in which you can stimulate your mind and be more inspired to do whatever you do; whether you are a creative person or you do physical work. That is, ways you can gain inspiration to do a better job. These are ways in which you can boost the human mind/brain to do a faster job, or a more quality job.

According to Napoleon Hill, in his book, Think and Grow Rich, below are the ten mind stimuli every human being can work with. Please note that not all of them are good ways, but they are what they are, mind stimulants.

1.  Fear
Although negative, fear speeds up the human mind and makes the person experiencing the fear think faster and in a more heightened state. Think of how calculative cheats become when plotting ways in which they could cheat on their partners without getting caught. Or, think of how calculative a rich man (who has once tasted poverty) would be with his money, because of the fear of being broke again. Fear of an eminent attack will also speed up any man's mind in coming up with the best way to defend himself.

2.  Auto-Suggestion
Auto-Suggestion is when you suggest something to you mind by repeating the thing over and over again. For example, if you say this out loud many times every day- 'I am a very successful man'- you mind might not take it as a truth at first (that is if you aren't already successful), but after hearing it over and over, it will sink into your subconscious mind, and then your mind will be stimulated to find the best way to make you a success at whatever you do.
